My Story
“
Hello, I’m Candace. My son, who is now 10, was diagnosed with ASD level 2 when he was just 3 years old. Those early years were a whirlwind of uncertainty and fear, and even now, those feelings occasionally return. Despite this, I’ve made it my mission to create the best possible environments for his growth and development. Through countless assessments and evaluations, I quickly immersed myself in the world of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). He’s had one since pre-kindergarten, and along the way, I've discovered that many parents feel lost or unaware that their child is entitled to a free and equitable education. It’s crucial to remember that schools aren’t doing us a favor; they are federally required to provide the support and accommodations our children need.
Another area that has weighed heavily on my heart is planning for my son’s financial future. The uncertainty of what his life will look like—whether he’ll marry or be able to work and support himself—often keeps me up at night. What I am certain of is that one day, I won’t be here, and my deepest instinct tells me that he must be cared for after I’m gone. This can only happen with a well-thought-out plan. I sincerely hope these resources provide some guidance and illuminate the path for you. Sending all my love.
